The Best Golf Courses in Japan You Can Actually Play as a Visitor

Forget the lists full of unplayable private clubs. These are Japan's genuinely great courses where an overseas visitor can actually get a tee time — and what each costs.

Updated October 2026

The short answer

Japan's best courses that overseas visitors can book include Narashino CC (PGA Tour ZOZO Championship), Seta Golf Course North (LPGA TOTO Japan Classic), Kanehide Kise in Okinawa (Japan PGA Championship) and PGM Maria (Pete Dye), with weekday green fees from about ¥15,000. Some famous clubs — Fujizakura, Hokkaido Classic and Kyoto Golf Club's Kamigamo Course — require a member, so we don't list them as bookable.

Every “best courses in Japan” ranking has the same flaw: the top of the list is unplayable. Hirono, Naruo, Tokyo Golf Club — magnificent, and closed to you without a member’s introduction.

This list is different. Every course in the first four sections accepts bookings from overseas visitors (we make them for you, in English). Prices are approximate weekday rates for autumn 2026; we confirm the exact price for your date.

Famous, but not open to overseas visitors on their own

These clubs appear on many lists, but when we called, each required a member’s introduction or a member in the group. We can’t book them for a group of overseas visitors.

How to choose (and book)

Match the course to your route, not the other way around:

  • Tokyo, one or two rounds: Narashino or Camellia Hills, plus PGM Maria for contrast.
  • Mt. Fuji: Asagiri (spring to autumn) or Fugaku (all year).
  • Kyoto–Osaka: Seta North for tour conditions, Osaka Golf Club for the sea.
  • Winter: Okinawa — Kanehide Kise, or one of the other resort courses in our Okinawa guide.

Quick answers

Can visitors play Japan's top-ranked courses like Hirono or Naruo?+

Japan's most exclusive old-line clubs (Hirono, Naruo, Tokyo Golf Club and similar) generally require a member's introduction. But the next tier — tour venues and courses by famous designers — takes visitors, and that is where most memorable golf-trip rounds are played.

What's the best single course for a first Japan golf trip?+

For Mt. Fuji views, Asagiri Country Club. For tour pedigree near Tokyo, Narashino or Camellia Hills. On the Kyoto–Osaka leg, Seta Golf Course's North Course or Osaka Golf Club. In winter, a resort course in Okinawa.

Can I play Fujizakura, Hokkaido Classic or Kyoto Golf Club?+

Not as a group of overseas visitors on your own. When we called, each of these clubs required a member's introduction or a member in the group. We suggest a similar course that accepts visitors instead.

When is the best season to play in Japan?+

April–May and October–November are ideal across most of Japan. Hokkaido is best from June to September. In winter, play near Tokyo or Osaka, on the Shizuoka side of Mt. Fuji, or in Okinawa.
